Market research for industrial service providers starts with your own unit economics, not the vendor's brochure. That is where we begin at 8scale, publisher of Scalebook, our inspection and maintenance robotics research.
Outcome-based contracts move your risk from hours sold to data delivered per shift. Before you sign one, you need your cost per inspection point, per meter of weld and per confined-space entry today. A robot changes that cost structure in a specific direction: high CapEx and low OpEx. Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) moves the CapEx, but it does not remove it, someone still funds the fleet, the pilots and the spares.
The tooling market is growing: USD 2.89 billion in 2024, 15.8 % CAGR to 2030 (cite as: 8scale Scalebook 2025). Growth in tooling is not proof that your outcome price holds. See the inspection and maintenance robotics market report, then model three contract forms side by side before you renegotiate one.
Bids are won on evidence of data coverage and avoided downtime, not on robot photography. Asset owners want to know how much of a tank wall or flare stack you cover inside the turnaround window, at what confidence, and who signs off the report.
Answer that with operating facts: hours available in the shutdown window, ATEX zone restrictions, confined-space permits, brown-field access routes, and the decades-old PLCs your data has to reach. McKinsey (2024 Manufacturing Survey) reports that 87 % of robotics initiatives never scale beyond pilot, as cited in Scalebook 2025. That number is the buyer's risk memory, and your bid has to disarm it.
We benchmark your bid position against named competitors on scope, inspection method, data deliverable and pricing model. The format is described under custom industrial market research. Decision point: identify the two bid clauses where robotic inspection genuinely shifts risk, and price those clauses explicitly.

Partnerships
Choose robotics partners on deployment evidence and channel terms, not on funding rounds. A vendor with three referenceable industrial deployments beats a vendor with a large Series B and a demo video.
8scale tracks eight segments in inspection and maintenance robotics: drones and UAVs, underwater ROVs, legged robots, stationary and teleoperated manipulators, robotic software and digital twins, climbing robots, wheeled and tracked UGVs, and pipe-crawling robots. Legged robots grow fastest at 25 % CAGR (cite as: 8scale Scalebook 2025). Segment percentage shares are not published, so treat any share claim from a vendor as unverified.
We analyse players such as Flyability, Gecko Robotics and ANYbotics as third-party cases; they are not our customers. In negotiation, the terms that decide your margin are territory exclusivity, spare-parts lead time, data ownership, training obligations, who carries the fleet CapEx, and your second-source option if the vendor is acquired.
Spend concentration decides which robotic service line pays back first, so pick the industry before the platform. Scalebook 2025 sizes annual inspection and maintenance spend across power and utilities, oil and gas, aviation MRO, automotive, maritime, manufacturing, chemicals and infrastructure.
Oil and gas alone carries US $160 B in annual inspection and maintenance spend (2024, global), cite as: 8scale Scalebook 2025. The full figure set sits on the inspection robotics market statistics page, with a citation string per industry.
Read these figures carefully. Total inspection and maintenance spend is not addressable robotics revenue: the robotics market itself was USD 2.89 billion in 2024. Most of that spend stays with rope access, scaffolding, NDT technicians and shutdown labor. Your decision is narrower: rank two industries by permit regime, asset access and maintenance cycle, then size the share of scope a robot can defensibly take from your own crews.

Working with us
We work as an analyst, on a depth ladder, and we never sell execution without the intelligence above it. Surface, Insights gives you free, citable signals. Snorkel, Scalebook is the annual report family, built for maximum insight per minute of reading.
Deep dive, custom market studies answers your specific question with deployment-level primary data: asset-level KPIs, operator interviews and real inspection and maintenance spend, not recycled TAM decks. Abyss, tailored consulting and market-entry strategy covers feasibility, roadmaps, and partner and vendor selection when you extend a service line into a new region or asset class.
Anchor, execution on the basis of our own intelligence follows only after that work: communication, website, lead and supplier identification. One current engagement scouts technology for turnaround improvement at a US oil and gas operator. If your next step is a new corridor or a new pipeline, start at industrial market entry strategy or go-to-market execution.
